Footbalcv.com set up in 2000 and ran the first trials day of its kind in 2001.
For the first time in the UK it offered unsigned players the opportunity to register their ‘footballing’ CV and play in trials matches in front of watching scouts to showcase their talents. The first event was held at Rockingham Road and was attended by over 60 scouts from the Premier League and Football League and was featured on Sky Sports.
Over the next ten years trial matches were held at the stadiums of Chelsea, Arsenal, West Ham United, Newcastle United, Everton, Wolves, St Georges Park and many more of the pro clubs in the UK. It also expanded to some European clubs and received endorsements from clubs, such as Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle United and Manchester City amongst many others.
At its peak Footballcv.com held the world’s largest database of players of all ages and scouts at all levels and provided football trials, online player profiles, residential football camps and football assessments.
Hundreds of players signed for clubs in the UK and beyond and one of its most famous members was Chris Smalling who went on to play for England, Man Utd and Roma. It also featured on BBC One as part of the ‘Match of the Day Kickabout’ programme.
